For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval. (Romans 14:17-18)

Joy can be a struggle to obtain. It is a choice to find beauty in the stench of life. I have developed a horrible habit of complaining and giving too much of my attention to the things that make me feel unhappy. When I think about the good in every situation the stench starts to smell sweet. When I can’t find good I simply trust God will work out the kinks and bless me with peace. When I am at peace with my life and the people in my life I can’t help but feel the power of joy; then things miraculously seem to go my way. Choose joy! (Philippians 4:8)
